King Family Farms

Hi, my name is George King. My wife, Dixie, and I purchased Lochsloy Acres Christmas Tree farm Mike Peters and Sheila McKinnon, in 2023. The farm is located at 5511 SRT 92, Lake Stevens, WA.  Dixie and I worked at Boeing from the mid 90’s, retiring after 25 plus years. We both grew up in the Edmonds/Lynnwood areas. Our story started in the early 1980’s, dating during high school, and we married in 1990. As we started our family, we moved to Marysville in the 90’s, and then to Lake Stevens in 2006, where we raised our two sons: George IV and Andrew. We lived close to Lake Stevens High School and have loved the community. We now have two grandkids, Izabella and George V, and daughter-in-law, Anzhelika. Back in 2000, we purchased a river lot on Canyon Creek, 3 miles up the Mountain Loop, where we have enjoyed many weekends spending time in and around Granite Falls. We would drive from our house in Lake Steven’s to our camping spot on Canyon Creek regularly, passing through the Lochsloy area, dreaming of owning a Christmas Tree farm as we passed by Lochsloy Acres Christmas Tree Farm.

During and after Covid, work at Boeing became much less fun for both of us, and we needed to make a change to find our happiness. We enlisted our wonderful daughter-in-law, Anzhelika King, who is a real estate agent. Anzhelika began calling local tree farms to see if they may be interested in selling, and we absolutely struck gold when Mike and Sheila were open to talking to with us. Mike and Sheila had purchased the farm in 1990, and raised cattle on the farm for a number of years, before retiring from regular jobs, and started planting Christmas Trees, where they built in incredible tree farm. After meeting with them, they were open to considering the sale, but wanted to know if we were up to the challenge. At this point, I retired from Boeing, put my house up for sale, and began working on the farm with Mike. As a note, I was an analyst at Boeing, working at a desk for years, so this was not an easy transition, not to mention, Mike was in his mid 70’s, and could out work most 20 somethings. Mike is one of the hardest working people I have ever worked with, and am so appreciative of what they have given us. “Thank You Mike and Sheila!”

OK, what the heck are we doing to the farm! Well, we have added a U-Pick pumpkin patch and a sweet corn field. We are adding additional parking to ease the congestion on 92. We have been repairing the barn, clearing the brush, and working on the hill. We want to support our local community with positive farm experiences at a price which is reasonable. We do not have a parking fee, nor an admission fee, and we sell our pumpkins significantly less than any of the big farms in the Snohomish valley. We have been working over the last couple years to open up the farm, where the community can enjoy the beauty of the trees, all the way to the top of the farm on what we call, Coyote Ridge. We have a great nature trail, called Passage to Shangri La. At the base of the hill is Frog Lake, and the hill boasts some of the largest Douglas fir trees around, and a massive cottonwood I call, “The Tree of Souls”. .
